Alluring skilled migrants and business investments has always been the focal point of Australia’s Migration Program. However, things have been problematic since the onset of the Covid19 pandemic as the country is forced to implement restrictions to protect its people and the economy. It is anticipated that the current fiscal year (July 2020-June 2021) would have the lowest population growth in over a century and such will definitely have an impact on the economy in the years to come.
For the time being, onshore applicants are given priority in terms of granting invitations to apply for a visa, if not the actual visa. Whilst on the other side of the stream, the aspiring offshore migrants have no other choice but to hold back on their Australian dream until restrictions are lifted. The big question is until when? Technically, these restrictions will apply for the current fiscal year but it should be known that dreaming a new life in Australia should not stop. The silver lining to all that is happening it that with vaccines becoming available and as the economy recovers, sooner or later the borders will re-open and migration numbers will definitely increase. Offshore applications not currently prioritised does not mean one should stop from working towards the dream. In fact, this is the best time to be prepared – be document ready, exhaust ways to increase as much points as possible as well as get in the EOI queue. Getting the skills assessment sorted takes months to process, not to include the weeks or months of document preparations before applying for it. Then there is the English test to look at, partner skills to consider and even the CCL test to sort out if one wants more points to claim. All these take time to organise so whilst borders are closed, focusing on these things makes time spent on waiting more useful. After all, the aim right now is to get into the EOI queue sooner rather than later so as not to be left behind by hundreds of aspirants who are eyeing their chance for a more promising life in Australia Once restrictions are gone, the invites will be pouring….and that alone (as the film title suggests) is the importance of being earnest.
